Jr wants to buy one of those sit up benches. I feel like it is going to be a waste of money. What do you guys think? Is buying exercise equipment ever a good idea?

i know i sure have my doubts...i always picture something that i don't know how to use properly (and without helpers to show me how) and that will gather dust or become a place to pile crapola when i realize i was kidding myself. but he does seem more like the type to make use (and know what he's doing) than i would.

I've never bought any large equipment myself, but I know that when my family purchased some when I was growing up we would use it for a while and then it would end up in the garage.

buy a big rubber powerball instead.
it works great and can be loads of fun.

Yeah, don't do it for sure. You can do sit-ups on the floor, right? Veto! :)

Coming from someone who just bought (ok, more like, gave in cause my husband really wanted and promised to use) a Bowflex. I was afraid, like you, that it was going to be a big waste of money and space. For Seth, it's a better investment than joining a gym since he gets home so late from work and is mainly interested in weight work; but for me, I'm more likely to contiue a regiment if I have to go to a gym where I sign in, meet up with friends, and feel obligated cause of the monthly fee, ya know? I also need more cardio than weight work so...basically I'm no help. I think it depends on the individual. The bowflex cost the equivalent of a 15 month gym memebership.
